Possum Kingdom Lake sits about 90 miles west of Fort Worth and roughly 100 miles west of Dallas — a scenic drive through Weatherford and Mineral Wells that takes about 90 minutes from most DFW suburbs.

From Fort Worth: Take I-20 W to US-180 W through Weatherford and Mineral Wells. Continue west on US-180 through Palo Pinto, then follow signs north toward Graford and the lake. About 90 minutes total.

From Dallas: Head west on I-20 to Weatherford, then pick up US-180 W toward Mineral Wells and Graford. Plan for about 100–110 minutes depending on your starting point.

From Frisco/Plano: Head west on US-380 through Decatur or southwest toward Weatherford, then US-180 W. About 90–100 minutes.

Launch point: We launch from the Graford area on the north side of the lake, which puts you closest to Hell's Gate, the canyon coves, and the most scenic stretches of Possum Kingdom. When you book, we'll send exact directions and the meet-up point.

Possum Kingdom has one of the longest and most enjoyable boating seasons of any lake in the region, with something to offer nearly year-round:

Spring (March–May): One of the best times to visit. Temperatures are ideal — warm enough to wakesurf comfortably, cool enough that the drive out doesn't feel brutal. The hills around the lake are covered in Texas wildflowers in March and April, and crowds are manageable. Water temps climb into the comfortable range by mid-April. Highly recommended.

Summer (June–August): Peak season, and for good reason — water temps reach 78–85°F, long days mean you can make the most of a full charter, and the cliffs and coves are at their most dramatic in summer light. Book well in advance for summer weekends. Weekday charters are easier to get and the lake is noticeably calmer.

Fall (September–October): A hidden gem of a time to visit PK Lake. Water stays warm through September, crowds thin out dramatically after Labor Day, and the oak and cedar on the hillsides start turning in October. Sunset charters in the fall are particularly spectacular — some of the best light of the year on those limestone cliffs.

What's the cancellation policy?
Full refund for cancellations at least one week in advance. 50% refund for cancellations at least 48 hours in advance. Full refund if your captain determines weather conditions are unsafe on the day of the charter.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes — pack a cooler with everything you want for the day. We're fully BYOB-friendly. Stock up before you head out to the lake.
